Google Adsense or WidgetBucks works great for a low cost, easy to implement and no management required for most sites. If you got a hot site though, you can make a lot more money by getting your own advertisers. We can set up a system that your ad sales team can easily use to update, manage and sell ad slots to customers. We can accept formats in JPG, GIF, PNG for static images or you can add in flash support for dynamic ads.

Another new convention that is quickly gaining in popularity are "delay ads". These ads are shown to the user before they can view a premium content page. Because they require either a delay (often 5-10 seconds) or user interaction to get past, these types of ads can fetch a steep price. There are various methods for implementing this type of delay ad.

With a custom ad set up you can easily run your own self promotional ads, or put up ads to products offering referral bonuses. You control your own ads, their rotation, what gets displayed, how much you charge, anything.

So whats the downside? You need to sell your own ad slots. This takes up your sales team time. You need to manage the ads. So unless you have a site that draws a lot of steady traffic, the costs might be greater than the gains.
